Stories From the Desert | Part 2: Unfathomable Rescue

What if the very circumstances you want God to rescue you from are also the circumstances He is using to transform you?

In Part 2 of Stories from the Desert, God’s Unfathomable Rescue, Jay Hohfeler explores the remarkable account of Israel’s deliverance from Egypt in Exodus 13–14 and what it reveals about Who God is and how He works in our lives.

Through his own experience with cancer, years of suffering, and an unexpected spiritual transformation, Jay shares how God’s rescue can reach far beyond our physical circumstances. While we often look to God for relief, provision, or a clear path forward, He may be accomplishing something much deeper in our hearts.

Just as God led the Israelites through the wilderness and parted the Red Sea, He continues to work in ways we may not immediately understand.

In this teaching, we explore:

  • Why God led Israel through the wilderness instead of the most direct route to Canaan.

  • How suffering can produce endurance, character, and hope.

  • The difference between physical rescue and spiritual transformation.

  • What the pillar of cloud and fire reveals about God's presence with His people.

  • Why God's guidance may look different from what we expect.

  • How the crossing of the Red Sea points us toward a deeper understanding of salvation through Christ.

  • Why we can trust God's character even when we cannot understand His plans.

A Reminder Worth Holding Onto

God does not simply rescue His people from their circumstances. He works through those circumstances to reveal Who He is, deepen their trust, and draw them closer to Himself.

Even when the path seems uncertain, His purposes are never without meaning.
